Solix Technologies Launches ILM Industry’s Most Extensive Data Security and Data Subsetting Solutions

New SolixARCHIVEjinni modules add advanced subsetting and security for improved system performance and regulatory compliance; A webinar on information management and security to be held September 12.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 6, 2006 – Solix Technologies, a leading provider of information lifecycle management (ILM) solutions, today announced two new standalone modules for the Solix ARCHIVEjinni active archiving solution. The first is the new Data Security module and the second is the new Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME subetting module. These two modules add new security and subsetting capability to Solix ARCHIVEjinni, the industry’s only unified active archiving platform – a single platform for managing all enterprise data; structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.

The Solix ARCHIVEjinni Data Security and Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME modules operate together to make the creation of secure subsets of a production database easier and more secure. The Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME module adds a secured instance subsetting tool to Solix ARCHIVEjinni that makes the creation of subsets of production databases easy. The Data Security module adds a metadata-driven data security tool for protecting confidential information in subsets and in archived instances of a database. The resulting secure subset or archive is as secure, if not more, than the production database instance.

“Effective security involves more than just securing data against unauthorized visibility. Secure enterprise data must remain relationally and contextually intact so that it can be used effectively in development, test, quality assurance, training and outsourced environments,” said Shekhar Dasgupta, president & chief operating officer , Solix Technologies. “With this release Solix ARCHIVEjinni can secure data using the most advanced data encryption, data masking and scrambling algorithms, while preserving the data’s integrity.”

According to Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), 54% of information in databases is confidential. “Most people worry about external threats accessing sensitive corporate data, says Brian Babineau, senior analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group. “But with database information the threats can be internal because developers and other internal parties have access to highly sensitive data. With the Solix ARCHIVEjinni Data Security and Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME software, companies can easily mask sensitive rows and columns in a database, securing the information and keeping it private from developers, testers or outsourcing partners.”

Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME Module – Secured Instance Subsetting Tool

Creating subsets of production databases is time consuming but enterprises must undertake the activity to support application development, testing, training and outsourcing activities. Compared to cloning an entire database, subsetting eliminates unnecessary data duplication resulting in reduced storage costs and improved system performance. The new Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME module comes with a new and powerful approach to subsetting. The new approach adds the ability to easily create subsets using a parameter-driven engine, greatly reducing the amount of time and effort that is required to create subsets for non-production environments and reducing the amount of storage needed to support a non-production environment. The subsets created have all of the original data relationships intact, ensuring that they function identically to the original database. The new Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME approach is about two to five times faster than other subsetting tools that use traditional approaches, resulting in improved productivity, reduced testing and development cycles, and up to 50 percent savings on the storage infrastructure needed to support a typical enterprise non-production environment.

The new Solix ARCHIVEjinni MiniME module has an integrated data masking engine that can be used to secure sensitive data while keeping the referential integrity of the secure data intact.

Solix ARCHIVEjinni Data Security Module – Metadata-driven data security tool

The standalone Data Security module for Solix ARCHIVEjinni adds sophisticated encryption and masking technologies that simplify the creation of secure archives or subsets. Data encryption and masking security techniques protect private data such as social security numbers, bank account numbers, or medical identification numbers in non-production instances, such as outsourced testing or development environments, and in archives. The Solix ARCHIVEjinni Data Security Module encrypts original database values, minimizing risk and ensuring that regulatory compliance is achieved. The Solix ARCHIVEjinni Data Security module’s sophisticated algorithms ensure that the data is protected while the integrity of the relationships in the database is maintained. The Solix ARCHIVEjinni Data Security module has the most flexible and widest range of security options available for creating secure subsets including: encryption; scrambling; substitution; nulling; masking; and the ability to support third party algorithms. These options can be used together to provide an even higher level of security.

The Solix ARCHIVEjinni is the only active archiving solution built using a unified platform with a single metadata repository for all enterprise data, simplifying the task of enterprise search and eliminating redundant data across multiple systems. The solution will ensure high data quality – a key component of compliance and regulatory requirements. With its unified architecture, enterprise customers can deploy Solix ARCHIVEjinni – now with the ability to easily create secure subsets and archives – across enterprise applications, custom applications, data warehouses, email systems and unstructured data types that would not otherwise be possible using point solutions.

Both modules are available now. Customers can license Solix ARCHIVEjinni directly from Solix Technologies or through its global network of resellers.

To help educate IT professionals and executive management on how archiving and database subsetting ensures data security, Solix will host a free webinar with the industry analyst firm, Enterprise Strategy Group , titled “Best Practices in Intelligent Information Management,” on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. PDT/2:00 p.m. EDT. To register for the webinar, please visit https://www.solix.com/resources/on-demand-webinars/

Solix to Deliver Comprehensive Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) for Oracle Environments

Oracle Validates Integration of Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ with Oracle® E-Business Suite

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 1, 2006-Solix Technologies, a leading global provider of information lifecycle management (ILM) solutions, announced that the integration of its Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ ILM solution with Oracle E-Business Suite applications has been validated by Oracle. Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ can be used for data archiving, and to reduce storage costs and meet compliance guidelines for data retention. Oracle conducted the integration testing for Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ as part of the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Application Integration Initiative. Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ becomes, one of the few unified ILM solutions validated to be integrated with the Oracle E-Business Suite. Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ is a comprehensive ILM solution that enables Chief Data Officers and business managers to organize, manage and search all enterprise information including structured, unstructured and semi-structured data.

“Solix has been a valued partner of Oracle for almost a decade,” said Navin Chugh, vice president, Applications Partnering & Initiatives at Oracle. “Oracle E-business Suite users can be confident that Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ satisfies the Application Integration Initiative standards for the Oracle E-Business Suite.”

Integration with Oracle extends Solix’s already significant competitive advantage over storage-centric point archiving tools and provides access into Oracle’s large customer base with an integrated Solix-Oracle solution that enables users to improve performance and reduce total cost of ownership.

“For our joint customers, Oracle’s integration validation provides the confidence that Solix ARCHIVEjinni works seamlessly in Oracle E-Business Suite environments,” said Shekhar Dasgupta, President/COO of Solix Technologies. “Customers no longer need to deploy multiple point archiving solutions for multiple data sources such as databases, Email and documents. Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ with its unified architecture alleviates integration headaches, improves risk management, upgrades easily as requirements grow and in so doing achieves a lower total cost of ownership for critical ILM requirements.”

Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ in conjunction with Oracle E-Business Suite provides a unified Web-based platform for comprehensive data archiving and management that works across Oracle and other ERP platforms, email and documents. ARCHIVEjinni:

  • Selects, validates and archives data before purging using standard Oracle purge routines.
  • In case of any error or inconsistency, stops the archiving process and generates an error report.
  • Ensures data referential integrity in the archived instance, eliminating the risk of data loss.
  • Improves application performance by relocating historical transactions or other inactive data from the production database.
  • Supports simultaneous access to both archived and production data.

Additionally, Solix ARCHIVEjinni™ provides fast, secure and reliable e-discovery and search across all enterprise application silos and data stores.

“More and more customers are recognizing data archiving as a key strategy to manage the data growth,” said Raymond Paquet, Managing Vice President at Gartner. “Enterprises should look into archiving products that offer a single comprehensive solution for managing data across all data segments (applications, Email and documents), rather than buying a point solution for each of them. This would eliminate integrating multiple archiving solutions and eventually enable organizations to provide search capabilities across all segments of enterprise data.”

The Oracle Application Integration Initiative is available to Certified and Certified Advantage Partners in the Oracle PartnerNetwork and applies a rigorous technical process to validate the integrations of third-party software to Oracle Applications products. The validation ensures that the integration is functionally and technically sound, operates as designed, performs as required, is well-documented and can provide additional value to end customers. Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) delivers expert guidance for design, development and upgrades around integration procedures, as well as extensive training in integration tools and techniques. Additionally partners taking part in this initiative have access to dedicated integration assistance teams that work with over 100 product specific integration guides and an array of online and classroom workshops. Partners with validated solutions receive expanded Oracle marketing and sales assistance as well as the “Integrated with Oracle” logo. For more information and a list of partners providing validated integrations please visit Oracle.com at https://www.oracle.com/partnerships/isv/integration/search.html

Solix to Present Best Practices for Data Security at COLLABORATE 06

Rapid Rise in Security Threats, Identity Theft and Government Regulation Brings Data-Driven Approaches to the Forefront for Oracle Users

Sunnyvale, CA. April, 2006 — Solix Technologies, a leading global provider of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions, announced that Dinu Joshi, Vice President of Engineering and Oracle Practice for Solix, will present “Data Security is Less Expensive Than Your Next Liability Lawsuit: Best Practices in Application Data Security” at the Oracle Application Users Group (OAUG) COLLABORATE 06 Conference, to be held April 23 through 27 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee. Dinu’s address will explore why enterprises must take a better-organized approach to data security in today’s business climate driven by concerns over identity theft, privacy and regulatory compliance.

“The return on investment of a data security solution for the non-production environment is easily justifiable against the potential loss by heavy fines levied by government agencies and possible loss of reputation by exposing private data to the public domain,” said Dinu. “Organizations should take reasonable and necessary steps towards implementing appropriate security controls and balance risk versus costs when housing sensitive data. When choosing the appropriate level of data security and the algorithms used to encrypt or mask data at the column level, all data security solutions must adhere to the standard Oracle schema to ensure fully functional data security across production and archived data.”

The forces driving data security – government regulations and potential fines, as well as loss of customers and a damaged reputation – require a versatile and multidimensional approach to data security. That approach must not be purely technological or application-centric, but must also consider business policies, processes and regulations. Dinu’s presentation will describe Solix’s knowledge-driven data security methods and how they are implemented in an Oracle E-Business Suite environment.

Dinu is the founder of the Archive and Purge Special Interest Group at OAUG and is the organization’s worldwide coordinator. He has more than 25 years of experience in providing enterprise application solutions and is a recognized pioneer and innovator in ILM. His presentation will be given on Thursday, April 27 at 12:15 pm.

COLLABORATE 06: Technology and Applications Forum for the Oracle Community , is the annual conference of the Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG), the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG), and the Quest International Users Group (Quest). Among many other topics relevant to the Oracle community, the conference will feature in-depth presentations and technical training on best practices with respect to Oracle standards, including comprehensive coverage of data and application security issues.

About ILM and Data Security

Data security achieved by an organized approach to Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is more important now than ever, with database breaches and identity theft at high-profile companies in the news almost daily. Such security breaches put the personal information of individuals at risk, and the organizations responsible are exposed to potential large fines as well as lasting damage to their corporate reputation. As a recent example, ChoicePoint Inc. agreed to pay $15M to settle Federal Trade Commission charges over data security and record-handling procedures. Recognizing the seriousness of the threat, Congress has introduced data security legislation in the Personal Data Privacy and Security Act of 2005 , and data security legislation has passed in at 20 states. In response, Corporations are rapidly developing and implementing new data security protocols as identity theft, privacy control and regulatory compliance are generating heightened interest in securing the data itself.
