Solix Technologies extends Application Retirement Reporting functionalities to Solix Enterprise Data Management Suite (EDMS) Release 4.5.

Solix EDMS to now include a new Solix ViewBuilder and Solix ReportBuilder for Application Retirement

SANTA CLARA, CA, May 06, 2009Solix Technologies, the leading provider of enterprise data management solutions used by large enterprise customers to manage business critical data, today announced the new Release of Solix EDMS 4.5. A key announcement with the new Release was extension of Solix EDMS Reporting capabilities for Application Retirement, including two new modules called, Solix ViewBuilder and Solix ReportBuilder.

According to Gartner research, “Applications often outlive their usefulness. Functions are duplicated by ‘sister’ organizations, acquired during mergers or included in new packages. Changes in business processes, architectures or operational needs may render an application obsolete. On average, 10% of the applications in an unoptimized portfolio are candidates for retirement. An additional one-third can require migration or rationalization”. (Gartner Report: Plan Legacy Application Retirement Carefully by Jim Duggan, April 24, 2009).

Solix EDMS Application Retirement tool helps customers migrate structured data from legacy applications to a central database repository with reporting capabilities. The tool supports migrating data at table level, business object level and the database level.

Solix ViewBuilder is a web based tool, which allows creating business views on the base tables with business friendly context names for table names and column names. The tool automatically creates view definitions (DDL). These views will be created on the migrated database for reporting purposes.

Solix ReportBuilder

Solix ReportBuilder allows end-users to build complex reports and represent them visually. Solix Report Builder also generates SQL queries based on visual representation. End user reports can be built quickly and easily using this reporting tool based on the views generated from the Solix ViewBuilder.

Solix EDMS integration with Oracle Universal Online Archive (UOA) will enable migrating the data and reports to a highly secured archiving environment. This integration would also provide complete reporting and search capabilities on the data migrated to UOA.

“Solix EDMS has been deployed over the last couple of years in a number of Application retirement projects” said Shekhar Dasgupta, President & Chief Operating Officer, Solix Technologies. “The newly introduced Solix ViewBuilder, Solix ReportBuilder and integration with Oracle Universal Online Archive for storing legacy reports and legacy data would now catapult it to the leading industry solution for application retirement”.

Solix Technologies Attains Hitachi Content Archive Platform Certified ISV Status

SANTA CLARA, Calif., November 24, 2008 – Solix Technologies, Inc a leading provider of Enterprise Data Management Solutions used by large enterprise customers to manage business critical data announced today that the Solix Enterprise Data Management Suite (Solix EDMS) attained Hitachi Content Archive Platform (HCAP) integration, enabling customers to easily archive, preserve, and discover database content.

Solix EDMS addresses both compliance and information lifecycle management (ILM) requirements through four complementary solutions: Solix Enterprise Database Archiving, Solix Secure Test and Development, Solix Application Retirement, and Solix Data Auditor .

Every application has large amounts of inactive data (database transaction/ attachment files/documents, etc) which are not required on regular basis and keeps growing in production instance thus leading to challenges such as Application performance, Manageability, Compliance, Slower application access, Quarter/month end reporting pressures, and infrastructure costs.

The SOLIX EDMS and Hitachi Content Archive Platform integration offers a unified platform to archive all kinds of historical/inactive data, such as documents (irrespective of their type like doc, audio/video, PPT, etc), reports (standard report output files like doc/txt/etc) and database (by converting inactive data into XML/CSV) and moves them to Hitachi Content Archive Platform’s highly scalable and reliable active archive storage solution.

The integrated solution offers easy access and retrieval of the archived data from all file formats (Documents, PDF, PPT, Audio Video files, Scanned images and Reports) with no limitation on the file size. Some of the key features include rescheduling on archive objects, built-in shredding/deletion, OS/Platform independent, set/modify retention policies on archived data. Inactive data from Database applications can be moved to Hitachi Content Archive Platform directly in XML/CSV formats. On the Hitachi Content Archive Platform, database content is preserved through Write Once Ready Many (WORM) capabilities, continuous data protection policies, and optional off-site replication. Content, once stored, is also easily found with HCAP search.

“With the continued surge of corporate data, businesses are expected to transform both structured and unstructured data spread across their enterprise into business intelligence in a moment’s notice,” said Marc Trimuschat, senior director, Global Business Development and Alliances, Hitachi Data Systems. “Integrating Solix’ EDMS with HCAP is a tremendous solution for actively archiving varied forms of corporate data, offering fixed content preservation and authentication, while scaling and optimizing both performance and availability.”

“The Hitachi Content Archive Platform is well known for preserving and authenticating fixed content”, added Shekhar Dasgupta, President & Chief Operating Officer, Solix Technologies Inc. “With integration of Solix EDMS Database Archiving with HCAP, we hope to bring an added value to customers who are looking to use HCAP also for long term retention of historical data from their database applications”.

Solix Technologies Announces Support for Oracle® Universal Online Archive

Leading provider of enterprise data management solutions extends application archiving capabilities with integration of Oracle Universal Online Archive and Solix EDMS

SANTA CLARA, Calif., September 22, 2008 – Solix Technologies, a leading provider of Enterprise Data Management Solutions used by large enterprise customers to manage business critical data, today announced that the Solix Enterprise Data Management Suite (Solix EDMS) supports Oracle® Universal Online Archive.

Solix EDMS addresses both compliance and information lifecycle management (ILM) requirements through four complementary solutions: Solix Enterprise Archiving, Solix Secure Test and Development, Solix Application Retirement, and Solix Data Auditor.

Using Solix EDMS in conjunction with Oracle Universal Online Archive, customers can meet long-term data retention requirements and aggregate content into a single-instance storage model. This helps eliminate the need for multiple archive servers and reduce information silos, so customers can more easily meet their governance policies while lowering their regulatory compliance costs. Adding the Oracle Database 11g Advanced Compression option enables de-duplication and compression that allows customers to further reduce total storage costs.

“We all know the value of having a robust, enterprise-scalable repository that allows customers to trust that their content is secure,” said Rich Buchheim, Senior Director of Development, Oracle. “Having a single source of truth that has a formal retention policy means that information is securely preserved and also reliably destroyed when it reaches end of life.”

Ever increasing regulatory and compliance requirements are necessitating government and businesses to retain an accurate record of regulated transaction history over a number of years. Grand archiving of data, metadata and attachments from Enterprise Applications into Oracle Universal Online Archive using the Solix EDMS, allows long term retention management, as well as rapid online search and eDiscovery of historical transactional content.

Added to the earlier integration of Solix EDMS with Oracle Database 11g option Total Recall and Flashback Data Archive – thereby transparently tracking data changes down to the record level so that every version of the record can be recovered and viewed back to a specific point in time – the Solix EDMS integration with Oracle Universal Online Archive now delivers an unparalleled solution for long term management for massive volumes of historical information of all data types.

“Solix EDMS provides core value-add extensions to Oracle Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware technologies that improve the functionality, ease-of-use and cross-platform interoperability of the Oracle Database and Oracle Enterprise Content Management platform for IT departments and end-users,” said Shekhar Dasgupta, Chief Operating Officer, Solix Technologies. “We believe this integration provides effective Enterprise Data Management that helps lower infrastructure costs and improve application performance, and builds a solid foundation for eDiscovery.”

Solix Technologies Announces the Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite

Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite delivers a packaged privacy solution for Oracle E-Business Suite

Sunnyvale, CA Aug 7, 2008 – Solix Technologies, a leading global provider of database archiving, data privacy and enterprise data management solutions that helps companies meet compliance requirements and achieve Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) goals today announced the Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite. The Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite can be deployed on non-production databases to ensure customer and employee privacy by obscuring sensitive data such as names, addresses, social security numbers and other sensitive data prior to the data being released to the test and development environment.

Regulators in the US and European Union are increasing focusing their attention on ensuring that data privacy is maintained for both customers and employees. Enterprise applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite are natural repositories of sensitive personal information. Unlike email or document repositories where access is secured by user level security, application test data management processes require clones of production data be made to perform mission critical application development, testing, and training operations. The non-production clones routinely made by IT departments often do not contain the same level of data security rigor as production systems, potentially exposing customer and employee data to malicious use.

“Scrambled data should be used to avoid risk of compromising personal data, both from a legal and good business practice perspective. Correctly scrambled data is not personal data because it cannot identify a living person”, said Thomas Otter, Gartner Research Director, “but scrambled data should follow the correct formatting rules, such that postal codes, bank account details, social security numbers, and dates are valid to test interfaces or transfers. This requires application level scrambling competence and tools.”

The Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business suite pre-defines data masking routines for a limited set of sensitive data fields such as name, address, Social Security Numbers, or credit card numbers in select Oracle E-Business Suite modules. Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite masks the specific fields that could be used by identity thieves yet relational and data formatting is maintained so test and development procedures can proceed uninterrupted. The Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite gives IT organizations the ability to de-personalize sensitive data before releasing to test and development personnel, reducing risk of data loss in non-production environments, ensuring privacy laws and regulations are met and separating database administration from security. Pricing for the Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite starts at $25K plus support and services.

“After conducting a thorough survey, we realized many organizations are leaning towards build rather than buy solutions and ending up doing nothing. We decided to build this market with a price point where cost of building and maintaining is higher than buying. The Solix Data Privacy Pack provides organizations with an easy entry point to ensure customer and employee privacy without disrupting the test and development process,” said Sai Gundavelli, CEO of Solix Technologies, “that separates the audit and risk management functions from the test data management function.”

Solix Data Privacy Pack for Oracle E-Business Suite is part of the Solix Enterprise Data Management Suite (Solix EDMS) that enables centralized management of data classification and security policies. At the core of the Solix EDMS is the Solix Enterprise Metadata Manager, which manages multiple applications metadata for all data types independent of the hardware platforms through a unified policy manager

Solix Technologies Introduces Solix EDMS for Baan Archiving

Enterprise Database Archiving and Secure Test Data Management Solutions Now Available for Baan ERP applications

Sunnyvale, CA May 29, 2008 – Solix Technologies, a leading global provider of database archiving and enterprise data management solutions that helps companies meet compliance requirements and achieve Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) goals today announced Solix EDMS for Baan Archiving. This solution will bring enterprise data archiving, data masking and secure cloning to the Baan environment, increasing application performance, security and manageability while reducing storage costs.

As one of the original ERP applications, Baan has thousands of customers running modules for manufacturing, financial, project estimating and management and distribution. Due to its long history in the market and difficulty in migrating ERP applications, many organizations have remained on Baan and have very large databases, possibly even getting close to the table limit for their underlying database. Large databases are often difficult to manage and maintain from production to test and development with system and reporting performance negatively affected by the database size.

According to Gartner Research Director, Christian Hestermann “Gartner sees user-centric ERP to be the next step in the future development of business applications. To achieve this user-centricity, a tight integration between business processes and good data management practices, including data archiving, document and knowledge management and embedded analytics, is critical.”

Solix Enterprise Database Archiving for Baan can extend the life of Baan applications by archiving legacy or underutilized data and reducing the overall size of the database. Enterprise Database Archiving is a proven strategy for managing large application databases to improve application performance and increase manageability of the database. For organizations looking to do a planned migration of Baan to the Infor platform or to other ERP platforms, Solix’s metadata manager acts as a project accelerator for managing data migrations.

Solix Enterprise Database Archiving for Baan:

  • Archives any version of the Baan application
  • Creates the archive without having to create a separate company
  • Maintains metadata in Solix Metadata repository, eliminating metadata discrepancies between archive and production
  • Allows business rules to dictate archiving logic-archive by your business process, rather than change your process to fit the archive rules
  • Archives at the database level for rapid archiving of data while maintaining referential integrity
  • Maintains access to archive and production data through native application layer

Solix Enterprise Database Archiving for Baan has been implemented at a US Based global provider of integrated self-service delivery and security systems and services. By utilizing Solix EDMS for Baan Archiving to archive historical data at the database level and relocate closed transactions to separate databases and reduce the overall size of the database, they were able to stabilize their Baan environment and extend the life of the application.

At the core of Solix Enterprise Data Manager (Solix EDMS) is the Solix Enterprise Metadata Manager, which manages multiple application and data types across all hardware platforms that enable centralized management of data security policies whether the data resides in the production instance or in test and development copies. Solix EDMS modules that will be available for Baan applications include:

Solix Enterprise Database Archiving – archives all data (application, email, documents and other files) to a secure, controlled, and searchable archive, improving application performance and reducing storage costs.

Solix Secure Test and Development – allows organizations to automatically create database copies while masking sensitive data in non-production environments for improved security, faster test and development cycles, and reduced storage costs.

Solix Application Retirement leverages the Solix Enterprise Metadata Manager and allows database administrators to map metadata between legacy and current applications and create conversion rules to ensure seamless data migration.

Solix Technologies Extends Enterprise Database Archiving Functionality to Sun Microsystems’ MySQL Database

Solix Technology today announced that it has joined the MySQL Enterprise Connection Alliance to bring enterprise data archiving to MySQL open source databases

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 14, 2008 – Solix Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise data management and database archiving solutions used by large enterprise customers to manage business critical data, today announced it has joined Sun Microsystems’ MySQL Enterprise Connection Alliance (MECA) partner program to bring Solix Enterprise Data Management Suite to MySQL databases. Solix EDMS for MySQL will deliver policy-based database archiving and secure test and development solutions for Information Lifecycle Management and compliance– improving application performance and ensuring compliance with data security regulations.

Solix EDMS will help MySQL users:

  • Improve peak performance of critical applications by offloading historical or inactive data
  • Enhance policy-based data archiving to MySQL-based applications, and reduce costs through storage optimization
  • Secure data throughout the entire data lifecycle

Sun’s MySQL Enterprise Connection Alliance (MECA) is a multi-tiered partner program with compelling benefits for technology companies. The MECA program offers members the opportunity to preview the MySQL roadmap, while giving special access and discounts for MySQL software subscriptions and support, as well as assistance in assuring their commercial solutions work well with MySQL Enterprise and other MySQL database tools.

Sun’s MySQL technology is used by some of the world’s largest and fastest-growing organizations to save time and money powering their high-volume Web sites, business-critical systems and commercial software. Enterprise data management is a proven strategy to manage growth in application and custom databases by reallocating data out of production systems into secondary, lower cost storage systems while maintaining seamless data access through the native application or BI layer.

Nicolas Pujol, Sr. Manager, MySQL WW Alliances & Channels of Sun Microsystems, said, “We are pleased to have Solix join Sun’s MECA partner program. Solix gives our customers additional choice in managing their database assets for the best business case — either building MySQL databases for custom applications or migrating data from enterprise applications into a more affordable MySQL data store.”

At the core of Solix EDMS is the Solix Enterprise Metadata Manager, which manages multiple application and data types across virtually all hardware platforms that enable centralized management of data security policies whether the data resides in the production instance or in test and development copies. Solix EDMS modules that will be available for MySQL include:

Solix Enterprise Database Archiving – archives all data (application, email, documents and other files) to a secure, controlled, and searchable archive laying a foundation to support eDiscovery.

Solix Secure Test and Development – allows organizations to automatically create database copies while masking sensitive data in non-production environments for improved security, faster test and development cycles, and reduced storage costs.

“Solix EDMS for MySQL gives MySQL users an enterprise-class data archiving solution to maintain performance and reduce the burden of large databases on IT organizations,” said Sai Gundavelli, Founder and CEO of Solix Technologies. “Our technology will help MySQL customers further reduce costs while enhancing system maintenance of enterprise applications and databases.”
